From Dolby Atmos to Tactile Haptics: The Evolution of Cinematic Soundstages
Why major post-production mixing facilities are adding .ahap tactile authoring alongside 5.1 and spatial audio.

In the 1990s, sound editors delivered stereo LT/RT tracks. In the 2000s, 5.1 and 7.1 discrete surround became mandatory. By 2015, Dolby Atmos object-based audio required sound supervisors to place 128 audio objects in 3D coordinate space. Today, a new standard deliverable is entering top Hollywood post houses: the synchronized haptic package (.ahap).
The Modern Delivery Manifest: Video, Audio, and AHAP
When trailer houses master a trailer for Aura Version, the output is packaged as an integrated media manifest containing the high-bitrate H.264/HEVC video stream, 48kHz AAC stereo audio, and a lightweight JSON-formatted .ahap Core Haptics curve. The haptic stem typically weighs less than 45 kilobytes—adding virtually zero network bandwidth while delivering transformative tactile depth.
